Frankfurt Fair- the oldest trade fairground in the world
Frankfurt Fair is the oldest and third biggest trade fair in the world. The fairground is located in the western part of Frankfurt, in the urban districts of Bockenheim and Westend.
Some of the internationally most important trade fairs are held in Frankfurt, for example the Internationale Automobilausstellung IAA (international car exhibition), the Musikmesse (music fair) and the Internationale Buchmesse (international book fair). The fairground is made up of 9 exhibition halls which are in total 320,000 m², surrounded by 96,000 m² open-air exhibition ground. In total, the fairground is nearly 578,000 m².
The Festhalle is the oldest building on the fairground. At the time of its construction, it was Europe’s biggest domed structure. Nowadays, it is a popular venue for many concerts held by various famous artists, it also hosts many sporting events. The Messeturm which is 256.5 metres high, was built in the art-deco-style and is one of Frankfurt’s landmarks.
A popular restaurant close to the fairground is the “Immer satt” offering traditional German food at very reasonable prices.
